Recent Purchases

Recently I have been shopping at Stafford Dolls house fair. Some sad news one local Dolls house shop is closing down so I got last bargains.

I have also recently purchased the maid from ebay at a bargin price. I have called her Nettie and will be doing her bedroom as the next stage of my project.

I have been looking around for a fireplace for my Night Nursery and finally found one I like. I brought on a day trip to Llangollan. You can also purcase this from the Dolls house Emporium.

Updated from the 9 September 2007, today marked my third visit to Stafford dolls house fair.
I have brought some accessories today for 1946 house.
The house that I am basing my dolls house on had a vast collections of books all over the stairs and on the landing. So in the model I am going to be putting books also on the landing to start off with.
So toady I have purchased two book shelves to house the start of the collection.
The 1946 dolls house is going have home front wartime miniutures in it, such as a set of pegs for gas masks.
Now on to Victorian house purchases, as you know I am starting to work on the drawing room which was not completed in the lighting section, so today I have brought a light for the room.
Also Purchased was a stair carpet for boudoir.

Went to Spring Miniatura at N.E.C Birmingham and had a good day. Brought the cornice for boudoir and fire grate. Also purchased an miniture painting of St Micheals Mount in Cornwall for 1946 house. Then a suit case for servent in the victorian house.

1946 house furniture

Most of this furniture shown so far was made by my Great Uncle Eric. This furniture was found in house when I took it over, some of it was in mint condition.
The cooker is an antique one which was also found in the house dated circa 1940's. The oven door is broken and the paint come off in some areas.
The bedroom mat was purchased yestarday. I brought this from the Cottage Dolls House shop just outside the town of Long Eaton (Notts). I sorry to say the bed was quite old broke recently and I could repair it. I going keep my open for 1/16 scale at stafford dolls house fair in September.

Inside of Haven cottage

I have just started to light the victorian house. Here are the rooms that I have done so far.

The decoration for the nursery was bought from the Cottage Dolls house shop in Long Eaton (Notts). The nursery will be furnished in a style inspired by my visits to various National Trust properties.

The latest shot shows the nusery now fully furnised with the carpet added to the stairs (although this still requires the ties adding). The room will soon have a carpet added as well, this I am currently embroidering. There will be a few more toys and other finishing touches to added, but the room is basically finished.

Stairs carpet now has rod fitted to it. Servents room flooring fitted. I accidently put to much glue and floor fitting since then the floor as been refitted new photo coming shortly. Also coming shortly will be master bedroom with lighting and followed house fully lited. This coming later on this week.

I have fitted to flooring to servents room and also done part of the wallpaper. I have now fitted the light to the Master Bedroom and done the ceiling decoration.

I just finished the servent room wallpaper and skirting boards and rug. Also put flooring in Night Nursery and started the wall paper which is noah's ark by Dijon.

I now have done the wall paper to night nursery. The noah's ark wall paper was purchased for Jennifer at Walsaw. You will notice a wash stand in the room this needs another coat of vanish on it It made from a project in Dolls House World magazine Issue 164 ( May 2006). I have just finished the night nursery and added some items of furniture to it. I am starting on the drawing room next.

The next room has alter from the orignal plan which was a Drawing Room. I decided to do Parlour Room has it fits more within the Victorian House that wish to create. I am changing the wall light and added a light. I have fitted the fire place and part wall paper the room. The wallpaper is William Morris Orchard brought last year from JoJays. I have now completed the parlour and the next room is the Master Bedroom.

Update 19/4/2007 I have finished the wallpaper of the landing. Due to this been quite plan I have use craft cream paper from hobbycraft.

Updated 20/6/2007 I have finished the skirting board to landing. Just need to put some shelves which will be purchased in September at Stafford Dolls House fair.

Update 25/8/2007 I have just finished the hall. The old blue bed sadly fell apart and I was unable to repair it. I am now on the look out for 1/16 scale bed. In the hall you will notice that I have fitted the door between the hall and the lounge.

Haven Cottage

The victorian cottage that I got for my birthday. This will display some of the victorian arts and crafts movement. The house residents will be a middle class family lady Emily, William and three children Gertrude, Frederick and Elisa. Also employed by this family will be a maid and nanny.

The house is a typical example of a arts and crafts house. I got these ideas from visiting WhiteWick Manor which is owned by the National Trust.

The front door of my on going creatation of a late Victorian cottage.

Furniture recent found at market stores

These are a set of pictures of items brought during my holiday in Cornwall.
The framed picture and paintings were from shop in Bodmin. The Chinese style cabinet and chimneys were from a market store in Mevagissey.
The china cabinet and lady is from Dagfields craft centre antiques departments (Cheshire).
These items are for both houses (My current project circa 1946 house and Victorian future project).
The china cabinet is going in the 1946 house as Dora (My Great Aunt, the original owner) had a china cabinet similar to this. The house is being restored as a model of Dora and Eric's House. The 1946 house was found after may years hidden away in a wardrobe in their House.
The lady Emily is for the victorian house along with the painting stand and chinese cabinet.
Hope you like my little finds, if you are intrested I can tell you more about they were bought.

Un-restored 1946 Doll's House

I am just about to start restoring this doll's house I have been given. In this collection are a set of images of how it currently looks.
This Dolls house was made by Eric Holdcroft and was meant to be a copy of his own home.
So beacuse of this I have called the people living in it Eric and Dora Holdcroft.
I am in the process of researcing this particular family members house at present through old photo's and memories of relatives so I have a feel of what to include.
Their house has not changed much over the years and is like walking into a period '40's-50's house or museum. The actual house is still in the family, and is currenlty now owned by Jill Holdcroft.
This Dolls house was Jill's origianly who is Eric's daughter.
